GUIDE
US-spec electronics, shipped worldwide
TekFeed ships new US-specification stock to buyers in more than 80 countries. In most export markets that is what buyers want, and they will tell you it is because US units are better made. That is not quite right, and the real reasons are more useful to know. This page explains what US-spec actually changes, what it does not, and what to check before a shipment leaves.
Why export buyers ask for US-spec
The preference is real and it is rational, but not for the reason usually given. The major brands build to one standard globally: a US unit and a European unit come off the same lines with the same components. What differs is cellular band support, the plug on the adapter and the regulatory marking on the back.
So why the premium? Four reasons, all about the market rather than the hardware.
Resale value. In a great many markets, US model numbers simply fetch more at resale. Whether or not the underlying belief is accurate, your customers act on it, and that is a fact about your margin.
The US SKU is the reference configuration. It often launches first, carries a broad model range, and is the variant that third-party cases and accessories are designed around.
Clean documentation. US retail packaging and paperwork are easy to present to an end buyer.
No ambiguity. A US model number tells your customer exactly what arrived. Mixed regional variants in one shipment create disputes that take longer to settle than they are worth.
What actually changes outside the US
Three things, in the order they cause problems.
Power adapters. US-spec units ship with a US (Type A) plug. Trivial to solve, expensive to discover on arrival. We can supply plug adapters for your destination on request — ask for them on your quote.
Cellular bands. US model numbers do not always match the band sets your local carriers run. Wi-Fi-only units are unaffected. For cellular units, check the model number against your market before ordering — we list the exact model numbers on every quote so you can verify rather than assume.
Regulatory marking. US-spec units may not carry the CE or UKCA marking that EU and UK importers are obliged to have. That obligation sits with the importer of record, so check the requirements for your market before you order.
What we will not buy
Every independent distributor gets asked where the stock comes from. We are not going to detail our sourcing channels here, but we will say what we refuse, whatever the price: no counterfeit goods, no recalled products and no grey-market stock.
Everything we sell is new and sealed, and it is held in our own warehouses before it is listed.
If your compliance team needs more than this, ask. We would rather answer a specific question in writing than publish a general claim.
Before your order ships
- Model numbers confirmed on the quote, so you can check bands against your carriers
- Plug adapters for your destination supplied on request
- Regulatory marking requirements for your market checked by your importer of record
- Export documents prepared in house: commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin
- Importer of record identified. For EU and UK shipments this determines who carries the compliance obligation

Tell us the destination and the models you need. We will confirm model numbers, plug adapters and shipping documents before you commit to anything.
Open an accountQuestions buyers ask.
Are US-spec units better quality than regional variants?
No. The major brands build to one standard globally, and a US unit and a European unit are the same hardware. What differs is cellular band support, plug type and regulatory marking. The reason US-spec commands a premium in export markets is resale value and the fact that the US SKU is the reference configuration, not build quality.
Will a US-spec phone or tablet work on my local network?
Wi-Fi-only devices, yes. Cellular devices depend on the band sets your carriers run against the US model number. We list exact model numbers on every quote so you can check against your market before you commit.
Can you supply plug adapters?
Yes, on request. Ask for adapters for your destination when you request your quote.
Do US-spec units carry CE or UKCA marking?
Not necessarily. The obligation to meet CE or UKCA requirements sits with the importer of record, so EU and UK buyers should check the requirements for their market before ordering.
Which export documents do you provide?
We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin in house.
