Bulk iPads for schools and districts

Schools buy differently from resellers. You need devices that arrive before term starts, enroll into the MDM you already run, and can be paid for against a quote your business office approved weeks earlier. TekFeed supplies new, sealed iPads in bulk to districts, charter networks, independent schools and universities. TekFeed is an independent distributor. It is not an Apple Authorized Reseller and does not represent Apple.

What a school order has to get right

A bulk iPad purchase for a classroom deployment fails in three predictable places, and none of them are price.

The right configuration. Model, storage and connectivity have to match what IT planned for. We quote by exact model number, every unit is new and sealed, and we do not substitute without your written agreement.

Enrollment path. Devices sourced outside Apple’s authorized channel can be managed, but not in the way Apple’s own marketing implies. The section below explains exactly what changes and what it costs you in staff time. Any supplier who tells you there is no difference has not done this before.

Procurement mechanics. Public institutions buy on a purchase order against a quote, not a credit card at checkout. If a supplier cannot issue a quote your business office can process, the price is irrelevant.

Apple School Manager and independent-channel devices

This is the question we get asked most, and the one most bulk suppliers answer dishonestly. Here is the accurate version.

TekFeed is not an Apple Authorized Reseller. Automated Device Enrollment — where devices appear in your Apple School Manager account automatically and enroll into MDM the first time they are switched on, untouched — requires purchase from Apple, an Apple Authorized Reseller, or a participating carrier, linked to your Organization ID by the supplier’s Reseller ID. We cannot provide that, and neither can any other independent distributor.

What you can do instead. Apple supports manually adding iPads to Apple School Manager using Apple Configurator, specifically for devices not purchased through those channels. Once added, they behave like any other device in your account: mandatory supervision, MDM enrollment, the same configuration profiles and app assignments. The functional end state is the same.

What it costs you. Two things. Someone has to physically touch each device with a Mac or an iPhone running Apple Configurator, which is real staff time on a large deployment. And devices added this way carry a 30-day provisional period during which the assigned user can release the device from Apple School Manager, supervision and MDM.

How districts handle the provisional window. That 30-day clock starts when the device is enrolled, not when it reaches a student. Enroll on receipt, then stage the devices until the period lapses, and they are fully locked down before anyone opens a box. This is the main argument for taking delivery well before term starts, and it is the single most useful thing to plan around on this page.

Confirm the current behavior against Apple’s documentation before you build a deployment plan on it — Apple revises these rules, and we would rather you check than take our word for it.

How school and district orders run

  • New, sealed iPads only, quoted by exact model number
  • A written quote your business office can raise a purchase order against
  • W-9 and sales tax exemption certificate handled at account setup, not at invoicing
  • No substitutions without written agreement
  • A named account representative rather than a ticket queue

Questions buyers ask.

Can iPads bought from TekFeed be enrolled in Apple School Manager?

Yes, manually. Apple supports adding devices to Apple School Manager with Apple Configurator even when they were not purchased from Apple or an Authorized Reseller. Once added, they are fully supervised and MDM-enrolled. What you do not get is Automated Device Enrollment, where devices appear in your account without anyone touching them. That requires an authorized channel purchase, and no independent distributor can provide it.

What is the 30-day provisional period and does it affect us?

Devices added through Apple Configurator give the assigned user 30 days to release the device from Apple School Manager, supervision and MDM. The clock starts at enrollment, not at handout, so districts that enroll on receipt and stage devices before term have the window lapse before students ever see them. It only becomes a problem if you enroll and distribute in the same week.

Are the iPads new?

Yes. We sell new, sealed iPads only.

Do you work with purchase orders?

We issue a written quote first so your business office has a document to raise the PO against, and handle the W-9 and tax exemption certificate at account setup rather than at invoicing. Your account representative will confirm payment terms for your institution.
